5 Steps To Take Before You Launch Your PR Campaign

Whether you are hiring someone to handle your PR, just mulling it over, or tackling it yourself, here are the top 5 things that you must do before you start pitching your product to the masses. We always run into the same questions from each of our clients so we thought- hey- why not put it down on virtual paper for your reference?

1. Put together a good, strong, clean website. This doesn't mean spend your savings- it means have something to actually present and pitch to the media. A nice clean logo and presentation of your product will speak for itself. Do not forget to use a professional email address with the same domain as your website. @hotmail, @comcast etc. are not professional.

2. Present the finished product. Go out there with your best foot forward, you only have one chance to make a good first impression.

3. Get into a realistic mindset. AKA- relax and give it time. Who knows- maybe you will end up on the cover of Vogue overnight, but just incase you don't, please remember that the ramp up period for online PR is anywhere from 4 weeks to 3 months before you may see your first hit. Traditional print and television naturally take even more time as editors are usually putting together ideas as far as 6 months in advance.

4. Be ready. Be ready for the press when you get it. Can you fulfill orders? Can you provide excellent customer service? Is your packaging ready? You never know where your PR will lead you, huge wholesale orders and demands from Hollywood award shows for hundreds of products are not uncommon to our clients.

5. Evolve. Remember that in order to keep the media interested you must evolve. Develop new products, update your website consistently and continue to think ahead to the seasons. Watch the trends and ask questions. Keep your PR firm up to date on what you have in store and where your line is headed. Communication is the key to success!
